The two largest school districts in the Champaign-Urbana region will launch online registration for students in July.
The move toward an electronic solution for registration for Champaign Unit 4 Schools and Urbana School District 116 – and away from traditional in-person, paper-based registration systems — has been in the works for a long time. They certainly won’t be the first; several area districts already utilize online platforms for registration.
But the timing is particularly helpful, due to the changing conditions and ongoing challenges related to COVID-19.
Below is a listing of public school registration dates and/or information for communities in and around Champaign County, including Champaign, Urbana, Mahomet, Monticello, Fisher, Rantoul, Tuscola, and more. If you’re new to the community, new to schooling for your child, or just need to register your child for school, we hope this article is helpful to you. Please contact each district with questions; we provide this as a community service.
Mark your calendars – but of course be ready that anything, especially this year, is subject to change.
Thank you to Christie Clinic for presenting our 2020 Champaign-Urbana Area Back to School series.
Christie Clinic is encouraging parents to schedule a school physical soon.
Starting school physical appointments now will allow Christie Clinic Department of Pediatrics and Department of Family Medicine to best serve all patients while maintaining a safe visit environment. Enhanced precautions are in place to keep patients and team members safe including additional hours, visitor restrictions and social distancing to reduce the number of people in our facilities.
Parents can currently make back-to-school appointments for their children through their MyChristie patient portal or online at christieclinic.com.

Champaign Unit 4 Schools Registration
“We are strongly encouraging all families to utilize the online registration as we are unsure if/when onsite registration will happen,” Champaign Unit 4 Schools wrote in a social media post. The District is offering mobile online registration at five neighborhood locations on both Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8, to support families who may not have access to a device or internet; find more details here. Additional mobile online registration — along with Spanish, French, and Qanjobal interpreters — will be offered at two neighborhood locations all day on Tuesday, July 21; find those details here.
If your student(s) is/are already in Unit 4, here’s what to expect, according to the District:
- On July 1, the family member designated as the primary guardian in the Student Information System will receive an email with full instructions on how to complete the online registration process.
- Once the online registration has been submitted, the child’s information will be uploaded to the Student Information System.
- The online registration platform will be open July 1 through July 31 [update: extended through August 12], while mobile online registration is currently scheduled only for July 7, July 8, and July 21.
- If parent/guardian does not receive an email on July 1, contact your child’s school.
- If parent/guardian needs further assistance with the online registration, reach out to your child’s school.
- Remember that registration must occur to secure your child’s spot in Unit 4; final determination of virtual or in-person learning is a separate process.
If your student is new to the district, you must first register at the Center for Family and Community Engagement, 703 S. New Street, Champaign (for K-8). If your high school student is new to the district, you must contact your child’s high school and set up a time to share academic information from the previous school.
