It’s been a week of listening and learning.
Here is what we do know: racism exists in our community and within the systems that govern our lives. There is no room for mothers and fathers to fear for the safety of their children because of the color of their skin.
We stand with black mothers, black fathers, black children, black families.
We do not have all of the answers and we don’t expect that anyone else does either, but we do have a space where we can learn with one another.
As a platform for local parents, we will continue to be a resource to all families, working with local businesses and organizations to support our collective community.
We have hope that greater Champaign-Urbana will rise to these challenges and come out stronger in the end.
We’ve always been able to trust our friends at Sesame Street. This weekend check out the 60-minute special “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism. A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Families” will air on Saturday, June 6, at 9 a.m. Central Time.
We appreciate this supportive strong community.
Summer weather is certainly here and we’ve got everything you want to know about heading outdoors to enjoy this summer around Champaign-Urbana
New this week – summer reading programs are in full swing, a round-up of what is open/closed for family fun around C-U and how to have the ultimate summer outdoors with your kids
Hearing the question, “what can I DO with my family this summer” from our readers often in recent weeks, we are excited to share the “What’s Open & Closed for Family Fun around Champaign-Urbana” post with you this week. This is a post we will be updating frequently as information changes and Illinois moves through the different phases of reopening. Bookmark it and check it out over and over again for the summer of 2020.
Outdoor recreation continues to rise to the top of things we can do with our families this summer. So we bring you our tips on having the ultimate outdoor summer this year! Canoe, creek stomp, hike and bike your way through the next couple of months as a family. Even if you don’t consider yourself an “outdoorsy family”, we think you’ll find something on the list that will become a new favorite for your family this year to take with you in the years ahead, too.
Summer reading programs are in full swing and our local libraries are here for all of us as we get books we and our kids will want to read all summer long. Find out how to get signed up for summer reading now and your kids can begin reading right away. You can also watch our interview with the Champaign Public Library by clicking here and mark your calendars for kickoff at the Urbana Free Library this weekend!

2020 will likely go down as the summer of day trips for many area families as plans for longer getaways are adjusted to fun day trips closer to home. We’ve got a list of more than 20 of our favorite places to pack into the car and head to for the day (we don’t cover big cities like Chicago, Indy or St. Louis on this list). Get your pic with the world’s largest mailbox, just to name one!
