Hunger can often be invisible among us. Help us ensure that no child goes hungry this summer.
While many of us spend the summer lazily snacking all day, the reality is that in our community, hunger is a significant problem — especially among children. Many kids who rely on school meals struggle to get enough to eat during the summer months.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with several local agencies to serve free meals to children during the summer months. Agencies include Champaign Unit 4 School District and Urbana District 116. Any child under age 18 is eligible for free meals; there are no restrictions or residency requirements. Meals will be served at the following sites during summer 2020 (with times and dates).
Champaign Urbana Public Health District: All meals are free to kids ages 1-18, regardless of where they live or their family’s income, through mid-August. Breakfast and lunch are provided together in one bag from 10 a.m.-noon, Monday through Friday. CUPHD is located at 201 W. Kenyon Road in Champaign. Mobile sites: Ivanhoe Estates in Urbana (26 Ivanhoe Dr.), from 10-11 a.m., Monday through Friday; and Dollar Tree in Urbana (1303 E. Colorado Ave.), beginning June 5, with Sola Gratia Farm holding a pay-what-you-can market and lunch provided from 1-3 p.m.
Champaign Unit 4 School District sponsors the Summer Meal Program for all children ages 18 and under living in Champaign. A FREE nutritious breakfast and lunch are provided to students at the locations listed below throughout the summer months.
