Looking for a way to celebrate Pi Day in the Champaign-Urbana area?
March 14 is the geekiest of all holidays: Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), which is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The trillion-digit ratio can be rounded to 3.14 — hence the celebration on 3/14, which in 2020 falls on a Saturday. Fun fact: 3/14 is also Albert Einstein’s birthday… in 1879. If your idea of celebration involves mental math, we’ve got some tricks for you here.
Want to celebrate Pi Day with food? How about sharing a favorite pie together? Or perhaps a pizza pie? At our house we use Pi Day to celebrate all things STEM. Here are some more fun ideas to start Pi Day traditions with your kids.
Pi Day also means deals on pizza and pies, and we’ve found several deals to be had in the Champaign-Urbana area. (As always, please note deals might be limited, subject to availability or to participation). A trend we’re noticing this year is that specials are offered exclusively to members of that restaurant’s rewards club or users of its app, so it’s up to you how invested you want to be in the marketing of deals.
