Editor’s Note for 2020: According to Lighting Up Paxton’s website, there will be no display for Christmas 2020.
Big news, Central Illinois… the Johnson Family in Paxton, IL announced on Halloween morning that their grand Christmas lights display IS returning in 2019! The first snow of the year prompted the announcement, which will be met with great excitement by people of all ages.
The statement on the Lighting Up Paxton website stated, “The 2019 display is scheduled to premier on Thanksgiving night, November 28. Setup has already begun a week earlier than normal to ensure that goal can be met with winter weather already making its return to Illinois. This year’s display will feature added music that has not been seen before. Videos of those new songs will be released after the display premiers in November.”
After taking off 2018, we weren’t sure if the Johnson family would pick up this tradition once again this year. They took a two-year hiatus in 2015 and 2016 as well.
In 2017, the light show was up and running in all its glory. The light show had over 140,000 lights that year and was completely synchronized to music. Johnson states this year’s display will feature music that’s never been seen before; videos will be made available after their debut over Thanksgiving weekend.
You can see a short video of the Johnson Family home from 2014 on their Facebook page to get an idea of what their show is like.
