A few tips before you go out to get your LIVE Christmas tree:
– Some farms only take cash or checks, so be prepared.
– Please note, trees sell out. Go early for the best selection.
– Some places allow dogs, but remember to ask if you’re not sure.
– Some places allow you to cut your own tree; others do it for you. Most do not allow chainsaws.
– Tree farms can be difficult to find, so do your research and bring your sense of humor. We’ve provided links to help you out. Get your GPS ready and go find the perfect tree.
– Dress appropriately!

PLACES TO CUT YOUR OWN TREE NEAR CHAMPAIGN-URBANA:
Sunset Christmas Tree Farm, Mansfield: Fresh cut cut fir trees; also number of live choose and cut White Pine trees. Opens the day after Thanksgiving and has regular hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until sell out. Santa will be there on Saturday, Nov. 24.
Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch, Rantoul: Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch has five acres of choose and cut Christmas trees, as well as Fraser from North Carolina and Douglas Fir, Scotch and White Pine from Indian. They have saws, a tree shaker and baler for your convenience. Check the website for hours. Of course, you can see some reindeer while you’re there!
Forest Hills Tree Farm, Danville: Cut your own Christmas tree. Located about 45 minutes east of Champaign-Urbana. Open only two weekends, Saturday and Sunday starting the weekend after Thanksgiving, 10 am to 4 pm.
Helmig’s Tree Farm, Saybrook: Enjoy hot chocolate, treats and a warm fire while visiting this family farm. Choose and cut your own or buy a pre-cut tree. About 40 minutes away in Saybrook, Illinois. Open day after Thanksgiving Nov. 23; and then Saturday and Sundays 10 am- 5 pm through Christmas.
Phillips Christmas Trees, Heyworth: A choose and cut tree farm; no pre-cut trees sold here. Located about an hour northwest of Champaign-Urbana. Like to have that tree up before Thanksgiving? Opening weekend is Nov. 16-17. Scotch pine, white pine and Norway spruce.
Tuckers Tree Farm, Mattoon: Another one open before Thanksgiving, as opening weekend is Saturday-Sunday 11/17-18. Open 8-4:30. More than an hour away south of C-U, they will have popcorn and hot chocolate waiting for you.

Tate’s Trees, Champaign: Opening day is November 23 at 8 a.m., open daily until sell out. Located north of Champaign on Mattis Avenue. Several varieties available.
C-U Optimist Club: Annual Christmas Tree sale starts on Saturday, November 24. Look for the tent near the corner of Springfield and Mattis. All proceeds go back to youth organizations right here in Champaign County. Open daily until sell out.
Country Arbors, Urbana: Trees available starting Nov. 16. Find fresh cut Fraser Firs, live cut greens including roping, wreaths, dogwood, yule logs, and dozens of other types of live cut branches.
