Remember your trips as a kid to CURTIS ORCHARD & PUMPKIN PATCH? As the sponsor of our Champaign-Urbana Preschool Activities Guide, Curtis Orchard reminds you they’re still the #1 place to bring little ones of the next generation. For a cost-saving trip, introduce your preschooler to their affectionate kitty cat family. After that, a cider slush and cinnamon-sugar donut hits the spot. A few trips down the inflatable slide is a sure recipe to burn off some energy, and if you have the time – miniature golf and the corn maze also make good memories. For the full experience, bring a camera to capture the first time they pick apples or your fall pumpkins. And, don’t forget – they have a restaurant for lunch, season activity passes, a festive lineup of weekend fun, and group tours during the week. Either way, there’s fun for the little ones at Curtis Orchard. Memories await!
Let’s face it….preschoolers are unpredictable. One day they need a nap, and the next day, they are raring to go. Part of growing up means presenting them with fun and unique activities to challenge their developing selves. While we certainly couldn’t list all of the fantastic preschool activities in town, we picked a few of our favorites. If you are still searching for that perfect preschool for your child, be sure to check out our Champaign-Urbana Preschool Guide.
10. Attend Weekly Library Events
We are fortunate to have fantastic libraries in our area that promote reading, play, and fun. Both the Champaign Public Library and the Urbana Free Library offer routine programming for preschoolers. From craft times, story telling, music, and exercises classes, your preschooler is sure to find something that they enjoy. Be sure to check out their calendars for more information. The Champaign Public Library recently added a new play area which is great for the preschoolers in your family.
9. Visit Our Beautiful Parks
We love nature in Champaign-Urbana! The Champaign Park District and Urbana Park District offer numerous parks to explore. Pack up a picnic lunch and enjoy the scenery. The UPD also offers various seasonal preschool nature programs. Parks are great areas for children to release energy, gain sensory input, and socialize with other children. They also allow for preschoolers to gain confidence with their gross motor skills.
8. Flip for Fun at Preschool Gymnastics Classes
If flips and tumbling are more your child’s speed, try a preschool-aged gymnastics curriculum. Our friends at Champaign Gymnastics Academy, I-Power School of Gymnastics, Stephens Family YMCA, and Hayasaki Gymnastics all offer classes geared for preschoolers.
7. Burn Off Some Energy at Fitness Activities for Kids
The Champaign-Urbana area is serious about fitness and getting our youngest community members involved is important. Our friends at Amara Yoga & Arts offer yoga and arts classes for preschoolers, as well as yoga playgroups. The Urbana Dance Company offers creative movement classes for preschoolers ages 3 and up. 5. Get Crafty and Creative
Promoting creativity and direction following through play is important for your preschooler. Fine motor skills form the foundation for many educational skills, so it is best to incorporate fun into your learning. The Champaign Park District offers arts and crafts for preschool-aged children and up. Drop in classes at Michael’s are always fun and offer seasonal activities that your child can make. The best part….the mess isn’t in your house. Think slime, frames, painting, etc.
4. Chill Out at the Indoor Playgrounds
Indoor playgrounds are the best when it comes to burning off energy on ANY day. It doesn’t just have to be cold or raining. Check out our guide to indoor play here. We love having the ability to sip a cup of coffee and watch the kids play in a contained area because some days, you just need that……
3. Take a Day Trip to Orpheum Children’s Science Museum
There are so many fun activities to check out at Orpheum Children’s Science Museum. Check out our detailed information here. Be sure to check out their monthly drop-off events for 4-year-olds and up. The museum offers annual memberships for frequent visitors. While you’re there, be sure to take a selfie with their dinosaur. We loved learning about their new tarantula. So much fun!
2. Sing a Song or Play an Instrument with Music Classes
The Champaign School of Music offers opportunities for you to sing, dance, drum and jam with your preschooler through musical play and child-friendly instruments. Be sure to also check out park district programs for other fun and unique ways to incorporate music into your weekly plans. Music therapy classes are available at Stephens Family YMCA for children of all developmental abilities.
And Finally…..1. Spend a Day at Curtis Orchard!
Take your preschooler apple picking and enjoy a cinnamon apple donut at Curtis Orchard. Make sure to try their apple cider slushie. Make a yearly goal to take a picture of your child in the oversized rocking chair and compare the pictures from year-to-year. We love to pet the kitties, take a tour of the corn maze, and to watch the animals. The big slide is always a hit amongst the preschoolers, too. There are plenty of Instagram-worthy photo options at Curtis Orchard, so make sure to remember your camera. There is an on-site cafe so make sure to plan your lunch there but do save room for that apple slushie or apple sipper.
