With the kids back in school, September can be a busy month. (You should see my planner — there’s not nearly enough blank space!) So do yourself a favor and take a break from the hustle and bustle to enjoy a little adult time this month.
Whether you’re looking for a date-night atmosphere or just a fun night out with friends, we’ve rounded up a list of the top places for adults to go in Champaign-Urbana and beyond in September.
Mary & Zac at Sipyard: Two friends singing acoustic versions of their favorite songs in a beverage garden in downtown Urbana on Sept. 29. We’re in!
CU Pride Fest Evening Party: Take the kids to the CU Pride Parade and Festival on Saturday to enjoy and then get a sitter so you can go to the official after party on Sept. 15.
Urbana Tryathlon: If you like Urbana’s First Fridays, you’ll likely enjoy this Sept. 9 event that features biking, bouldering, disc golf and beer.
Savoy Flashback Movies: Tired of always going to see PG and G-rated movies? So are we. Go see a movie only an adult can appreciate. Savoy 16 is showing American Graffiti — featuring Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Richard Dreyfuss, Wolfman Jack and a newcomer named Harrison Ford — on Sept. 2 and Sept. 5.
State Farm Center concerts: Take your pick — Counting Crows (Sept. 5), Jake Owen (Sept. 7) or The Avett Brothers (Sept. 27).
Fright Fest at Harvest Moon Drive-In: Who doesn’t love a scary movie? Well, most young children don’t. So leave them at home and head over to Harvest Moon’s annual Fright Fest Sept. 21-23 and Sept. 29. Halloween themed movies, trunk or treat, costume contest for adults and kids, roving monsters and zombies, spooky photobooth, food specials and more.
Pygmalion Festival: Music, technology, food, makers, and literature are all featured at this Champaign-Urbana festival, which is in its 14th year. This year, the festival takes place Sept. 26-29. Full weekend passes, day passes, and single show tickets are for sale and can be purchased here.
Krannert Concerts: Symphony. Orchestra. Jazz. Whatever your favorite kind of music may be, there’s a good chance you can hear it at Krannert this month. (We highly recommend the Opening Night Party and 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 7.) Check out Krannert’s schedule for September and then call a sitter and schedule an evening out that includes dinner, drinks, and beautiful music.
