Have electronics collecting dust in your basement, garage or storage area waiting to be recycled? Here’s your chance.
The Champaign County Residential Electronics Collection Event is coming up on Saturday, May 19, but online registration for the event opens on Monday, April 9.
Registration routinely fills up in a handful of days, so don’t delay.
This is the fourth time online registration will be offered to schedule an appointment for drop-off (the first time was in October 2016).
“Residents’ wait times went from 3+ hours to only 1-3 minutes,” Nichole Millage, the Environmental Sustainability Specialist for the City of Champaign, said of the initial event in fall 2016.
Residents will be able to pick a 15-minute time slot between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday, May 19, to drop off their unwanted electronics. After residents register, they will receive a postcard in the mail two weeks prior to the event, which they must bring with them as entry into the event.
Residents must register online here. Residents can only register once, but multiple residents from a single residence can register. Those needing assistance in registering should call (217) 403-4780 on April 9.
The event will be held at Parkland College, 2400 W. Bradley in Champaign. Participants are asked to use the Duncan Road entrance and follow the signs. The event will go ahead rain or shine, including lightning.
Communities eligible to participate: Bondville, Broadlands, Champaign, Fisher, Gifford, Homer, Ivesdale, Ludlow, Mahomet, Ogden, Pesotum, Rantoul, Royal, Sadorus, Savoy, Sidney, Thomasboro, Urbana and unincorporated Champaign County.
There is a two-TV limit per person/postcard — all types are accepted. There is a 10-item limit per postcard. Click here to view the list: Accepted and Non-Accepted Items List

Options for electronics recycling in Champaign-Urbana have dwindled in recent years, with this bi-annual event being one of the most broad in terms of items accepted.
