October is right around the corner- a time when most adults look forward to cooler temps and falling leaves and kids are counting down the days to Halloween!
But the weather and fall foliage aren’t the only things to get excited about this month. There are so many opportunities for fun in October that are geared towards the 18 and older crowd.
Whether you’re looking for a date-night atmosphere or just a fun night out with friends, we’ve rounded up a list of the top places for adults to go in Champaign-Urbana and beyond in October.
Tsukimi: Moonviewing at Japan House: Experience the traditional Japanese holiday celebrating the harvest moon. The Japan House interns will talk about how this holiday is celebrated in Japan and a tea ceremony will be held. The first 100 people will receive a manjyu sweet to eat while waiting for the moon to rise. If you haven’t viewed the harvest moon over the Japan House gardens, you are in for a treat! Free and open to all but since it’s a school night, you might want to leave the kids at home!
An Evening with Poe at Allerton: Listen to haunting stories and poems from Edgar Allan Poe while surrounded by the grandeur and mystery of the Allerton Mansion. Afterwards explore the Mansion and learn the history of the house and the man behind it all.
The Artisan Cup & Fork: You are invited to join the 2nd annual farm-to-table culinary competition and fundraising event, The Artisan Cup and Fork! Six regionally renowned chefs will team-up with family-run farms to prepare a seasonally inspired signature dish and face off in this local food fight to remember. The dishes will be judged by a prestigious panel of experts and a public vote. All proceeds benefit The Land Connection and its mission to grow the local food economy both on and off the farm.
The Toast of Champaign: Join us for a hyper-local beer festival at The Blind Pig Brewery beer garden with Triptych Brewing, Riggs Beer Company, Destihl Brewery, JT Walker’s Restaurant and Brewery, Monarch Brewing Company and Big Thorn Farm & Brewery all pouring delicious brews! Cheers!
CU Oktoberfest: Speaking of fall festivals, CU Oktoberfest is one you want to miss. Sausages! Beer! Polka! Pretzels! Only a $5 entry which benefits the Developmental Services Center!
Halloween for Grownups: If you’re a fan of haunted houses, costumed creeps, and All Things Scary in the sprit of Halloween, check out our Fright Guide. It’s full of scary fun things to do for grownups! You definitely want to leave the little kiddies at home for these events (unless you want them in your bed every night until Christmas!)
Orpheum Wine Tasting: The bi-annual wine tasting event will be held in the historic Orpheum Theatre on Saturday, October 14. Guests will be able to to choose from a selection of wines from around the world and buy their favorite bottles on site. Guests can also bid on silent auction items and take a behind-the-scenes tours of the Orpheum Theatre.
Trevor Noah at State Farm Center: See the host of the “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central at the State Farmer Center. Tickets are $35-$45 plus fees.
Kansas in Concert at The Virginia: A classic rock band that has lasted through the ages, Kansas will perform at The Virginia Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13. Tickets start at $50.
