For some, the NFL season can’t get here soon enough (you know know who you are). For others, the start of a football season is a bit more foreboding … cooler weather, gray skies, followed by … ugh … winter.
Either way, it isn’t far off. NFL teams report to training camps in about two weeks.
The good news is that if your youngster is football inclined, the region’s NFL teams have some fairly enticing options when it comes to kids clubs.
We’ll start with the Chicago Bears, given the preponderance of Bears fans in the Champaign-Urbana area. And the Bears have one of the better options going.
One word: Free.
Yes, the Bears offer free membership in the Chicago Bears Kids Club, open for ages 5-12. Chicago Bears Kids Club Kit and Membership includes:
- Membership card
- Welcome letter and Staley autograph card
- Periodic newsletters and contests throughout the year
- Invitations to Kids Club events
- Pro Shop discount
- Birthday postcard
There is a pay option, too, for $24.95 (plus shipping), which gets you a little more in the way of paraphernalia.
The Indianapolis Colts Kids Club is very similar, which is to say it is not unlike just about any kids club you’ll encounter in professional sports or many colleges. The cost is $25 per year and you’ll receive the standard benefits. It is open for ages 4-12. Some of the benefits include:
- Colts Kids Club backpack
- Membership ID card
- Colts Kids Club lanyard
- Opportunity to attend special events, such as the Colts Kids Club Halloween Party and Post-Game Field Visits at Lucas Oil Stadium
The St. Louis Rams Kids Club offers a similar package — the standard membership certificate, welcome letter, newsletter, etc. — along with invitations to a couple of events (Kids Club Day at Training Camp being one) that might be interesting for your fan. It’s $30 for anyone age 14 and under.
