Find maternity basics at Old Navy, Champaign: “Old Navy has a decent selection in store, and you can also order online and return in store if it doesn’t work out!” “I loved Old Navy. I didn’t want to sink a lot of money into a maternity wardrobe and Old Navy had stylish, comfortable clothing priced VERY reasonably. And most of the things I purchased lasted through two pregnancies and still look new.”
Kohl’s, Champaign: “Kohl’s has a small section but a good selection.”
Gordmans, Champaign: “Gordmans carries the same brands as Motherhood but small selection.” “Gordmans leases Motherhood Maternity a space, so then you don’t have to fight the mall hassle.”
Motherhood Maternity, Marketplace Mall, Champaign: “Motherhood Maternity at the mall, very reasonable prices. Maternity clothes seem to have good resale value also.” “For maternity jeans and bras, the absolute best I found for comfort and quality were from Motherhood Maternity in the mall- they can be pricey but they have constant sales and I only needed a couple of each.” “Motherhood Maternity at the mall was my favorite place when I was pregnant!” “For pants though you’ll need a couple good pairs from Motherhood Maternity.”
Target, Champaign: “Target has a nice little section… And a lot of XL or 1x worked well too…. Buy as you grow…… Hard to guess what you need.”
All Things Kids, Champaign
Karen’s Kloset, Champaign
Briella’s Boutique, Savoy: “Briella’s Boutique doesn’t have a huge selection, but nice stuff at a low price!”
Courage Connection, Lincoln Square Mall, Urbana: “Courage Connection has a few pieces in Lincoln Square.”
Onilne/ Hyrbid Stores
Zulilly.com: I also checked out zulily.com. They had some really cute pieces, just beware, their shipping is not free and their shipping dates are unpredictable.
Other Advice from our Readers
“I recommend asking around parenting groups first to see if anyone is happy to give theirs away or let you borrow them. I had about three friends that swapped clothes with me as we all had babies at different times and were able to keep passing them around.”
“One thing I did was purchase maternity pants/dresses, then bought larger sized tops at Gap. So, keep an eye on regular clothing; if there is a blouse or loose-fitting designed top, you should be able to make it work.”
“I’d also say don’t buy too much at once, as everything is changing (the weather, your body, what makes you comfortable); a couple of key pieces did for me when it came to buying maternity clothes.”
“I found by just going to Maurices and buying one size up in their long, lacy camis, I had a great mashup between already owned cardis, hoodies and jackets. They have a ton of colors and the fabric is very forgiving (catch those on sale too!)”
“I went to Motherhood for pants but they are very expensive. I made due with two pairs and I went to Star Uniforms and got a couple pairs of maternity scrubs.”
“I wanted to repeat what a few others have said — buy as you go!! Don’t buy a lot at one time.”
“A trip to Ross in Danville or elsewhere is worth it every few months as you grow, there is nowhere as cheap with as much variety.”
“H&M…there are two locations in downtown Chicago! I bought most of my pants and leggings there and my winter coat. Look at the clearance too.”
“Buy a good pair of pants with the long stretchy waist that goes all the way up over the belly, and tops you can always find good deals on just bigger tops for around the home..save maternity clothes until you really start to show otherwise you be buying every trimester.”
