Fall is Champaign-Urbana is one of our favorite seasons. Schools are in session, the air is crisp, and the excitement of harvest is in full swing (all those combines!)
It’s just not fall in CU without visiting a pumpkin patch, going apple picking, or getting lost in a corn maze. Lucky for us, we have several options to choose from. And when we have great weather, you can bet these local places are hopping with families!
2) Visit Campus
Sure, campus is busy as students return to their classwork, but on a lovely fall day, there is plenty to see and do around the University of Illinois campus. You can explore beautiful architecture, take a picture with the Alma Mater, visit a museum, hear great music, or just chill on the quad all in the heart of Champaign-Urbana.
Champaign County Forest Preserves, how we love you in the fall. Homer Lake and Lake of the Woods are both stunning this time of year. Want to get even more off the beaten path with your family? Try Kickapoo. Want to see art and nature? Explore Allerton Park. Want a shorter outing? Our many parks are perfect for a last minute fall picnic. Whichever nature venue you choose, October is the time to take in our lovely fall foliage.
Haven’t been to Illini Street Fest or a Illinois football game yet this year? You have a few more opportunities before football season is over. CU is crazy for soccer in the fall, and volleyball is in full swing. Don’t forget our local high school sports, which can be very accessible for families. Still not convinced? Check out our guide to taking your kids high school sports.
5) H-A-LL-O-W-EE-N Spells Halloween!
