The Lunch Crunch: Fast & Healthy Lunch Ideas
In the mornings, there’s something I call the “time warp.” We’ve all experienced it: that feeling of time slipping away when we have a million-and-a-half things to do and exactly five seconds to do them. When that happens, nutrition is often one of the first things to fly out the window. And that’s okay!
(Bet you didn’t think you’d hear that from a dietitian, did you?)
Perfection is overrated. Getting a little help isn’t. That’s why I’ve listed ten easy-to-make lunches to jump-start your day, for kids and parents alike. Because when you’re crunched for time, having a list of fast and healthy lunch ideas is essential. Print the Lunch Chart and hang it on the refrigerator for your go-to resource. Even better, the handy Shopping List makes trips to the grocery store a breeze.
All of these lunches were created from the same build-a-meal template: whole grain, protein, colorful veggies, fruits, and low fat milk. Feel free to mix and match based on what you have on hand. And don’t forget to check the nutrition labels for grains – each grain listed in the ingredients section should have the word “whole” in front of it. Chowing down on whole grains gives fiber-rich energy with plenty of vitamins. Remember: No whole, no go.
With a little planning, balanced meals are just a lunchbox away. Take that, time warp!
Parent’s note: Serve all lunches with low fat milk for a dose of calcium and protein. Find the egg salad recipe here: Recipe
