The annual FACET (Friends Against Children’s Empty Tummies) Bake Sale is just around the corner, along with an art show and concert and a raffle. All proceeds from the event will benefit to the BackPack Program of the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.
The BackPack Program can feed one child for the whole school year for only $200. For the current school year, the BackPack Program will provide support for over 900 children in our community. That is a significant jump from the 715 children sponsored last year.
Last year FACET had a $5,000 fund raising goal, but ended up raising over $7,600. This year marks the group’s 6th anniversary fighting childhood hunger in the community and the goal, again, is to raise $5,000.
The annual FACET Event comprises the FACET Art Show and the FACET Bake Sale (which includes a wide selection of true off-the-beaten-path goodies and the FACET Raffle Auction, with over 40 art pieces/products/services from local artisans and businesses).
The 2012 FACET Bake Sale will happen on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Market at the Square.
The 2012 FACET Art Show & Concert will happen on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Indi Go Artist Co-Op (9 E. University Ave., Champaign), with the opening reception at 6 pm and the concert beginning at 7 pm.
The 2012 FACET Art Show & Concert features “40 Years of Glass Art” by Richard Taylor (owner of Glass FX), and also the “Functional Pottery” by June Volkening.
The concert portion of the evening will be feature mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Buckley. Her performance will crown the evening following four musical acts from very talented young musicians from Champaign-Urbana.
Admission is free and we voluntary contributions will help reach the group’s goal of raising $5,000. Tickets for the Raffle Auction will be available for purchase during the Art Show, and all the items will be showcased. Winners will be drawn at the bake sale.
Don’t forget: September is also Hunger Action Month. Help chambanamoms feed hungry kids in Champaign-Urbana. For every new “like” on our Facebook page during the month of September, we’ll donate $1 to the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, up to $350.
