When I meet people who have just moved to the area, I listen and smile as they tell me they’ll only be here for just a short while; that Chambana is way-station on the road to some other destination.

Being far from home can make you feel disconnected.

The hardest thing about living in Chambana, hands down, is the loss of my support network.

For the first 24 months of This Chambanan Life, I hated living here. And when I say “hate” I mean: “Wow, I hate this place with the heat of 1,000 suns, how can I get us the hell out of here as soon as humanly possible?”

Outside the car window, the sun hit the treetops and just for a moment I was reminded of home. Not the home where I live, but the home from whence I came. The home that made me who I am today, the home that I so rarely get to see.

Every time we get back from a trip to Rochester I go through a two-week mourning period for Wegmans. I had to food shop the day after we got home last week, and I was totally bereft.
