ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! The IEPA will return to Champaign County on Saturday, April 9, 2022 for the next Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event.
NEW EVENT HOST SITE: State Farm Center (1800 S. 1st St.), enter SE parking lot from Saint Mary’s Rd.
Illinois residents MUST register for one of the available 15-minute time slots between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
This event is IEPA-sponsored and co-hosted by Champaign County, City of Champaign, City of Urbana, and Village of Savoy.
Please review the accepted & non-accepted items below; PLEASE NOTE THAT LATEX/WATER-BASED PAINTS* WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. (Because they are not toxic/hazardous.) The event will be suspended for 30 minutes if there is lightning in the immediate area. If lightning in the immediate area occurs at 2:30 p.m. or after, the event will be shut down. If it is just rain without lightning, the event will continue to operate.
Acceptable Items (ONLY THESE ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED; household waste ONLY; NO business, agricultural, institutional, or industrial waste!): Oil-based paints, paint thinners, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, old gasoline & kerosene, cleaning products, mercury, household batteries, used motor oil, drain cleaners, acids, corrosives, lawn chemicals, solvents, antifreeze, pool chemicals, hobby chemicals, aerosol paints and pesticides, fluorescent light tubes, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
(Local vendor Interstate Batteries will be onsite during the collection to separately accept lead-acid batteries.)
NON-Acceptable Items (THESE ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED): Latex/water-based paints*, smoke detectors, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, explosives, fireworks, agricultural waste/chemicals, business/commercial sector wastes, farm machinery oil, farm chemicals/oil, biohazard waste, institutional wastes, controlled substances, needles and potentially infectious medical wastes
*To properly dispose of latex/water-based paint cans, you need to dry out any remaining paint (using newspaper, kitty litter, sand, etc.) & then, after it is completely dry/empty, you can throw the can into your weekly garbage.
