My kitchen counter has a bad case of Clutter Creep.
Where Champaign-Urbana Moms Meet

This week, I’m looking to you to inspire me. It’s spring cleaning season and I need you to tell me how you get motivated to keep purging, cleaning and organizing when it feels like a Sisyphean task.
When I last wrote about the baby bibs, someone suggested I join Freecycle. This is a great swap service, generally adminsitered via a Yahoo! group, where you list your stuff and someone else raises their hand and says, “Hell, YES, I want that big ball of string you’re trying to get rid of!”
Two weeks ago, Sarah Welch from Buttoned Up told me that all I needed to do was follow the 80/20 rule. In other words, 20 percent of the junk on that counter was creating 80 percent of my problem. She said I could tame that mess in 20 minutes if I just followed that simple rule. I gave it the old college try.

This week in “A Year Living With Less,” Chambana mom Amy Armstrong meditates on the meaning of stuff.
