Amy L. Hatch began her career in 1994 as a small-town newspaper reporter in Rochester, N.Y. . In 1999, she left journalism and began a five-year stint as a marketing manager for Xerox Corp. before striking out on her own as a freelance writer in 2007.
Her first daughter, Emmeline, was born in 2004. Just 18 months later, she and her husband, Channing Paluck, relocated to Champaign-Urbana so Channing could enroll at the University of Illinois as a doctoral student.
Reluctant to leave the East Coast, Hatch nonetheless settled into life in the Midwest and has come to love her adopted community of Chambana. Her son, Henry, was born in Urbana in August 2008—and so she’ll always have a piece of Illinois in her heart with her where ever she may roam.
Currently, Hatch is a reporter for ParentDish, and the former family-travel columnist for TravelMuse. She has also been published in USAirway’s in-flight magazine.
