You may be wondering where and when you can get your hands on those boxes and tins of crunchy/chewy goodness. If your friends, family and co-workers haven’t already given you the 4-1-1, here’s some information that should set you in the right direction to satisfying your popcorn craving.
Online sales: Some Scouts are opting to sell online. Chances are if you have a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, or Crew member in the family, you will receive an email with a link to buy popcorn online and shipped directly to you. You might also see this link on social media.
Direct sales: Direct sales in our area begin Saturday, Sept. 16 and last until late October. Scouts have a month to sell door-to-door. Some scouts might have their popcorn with them when they do this, which means you pay and get your popcorn immediately. Another sales option you might see coming to a door near you is a Scout with an order form but no popcorn on-hand until November.
Popcorn Stands: Don’t fret. If your doorbell never rings, you will quite possibly run into a popcorn stand around town, also starting Sept. 16. (That’s when a Boy Scout, Cub Scout, or Venturing Crew member sets up a popcorn stand outside of an existing business.) Stand sales are organized by individual Packs, Troops, and Crews with local business. You can pay and take your popcorn on the spot!
As if the deliciousness of Boy Scout popcorn wasn’t enough to entice you, just remember the money you spend is going to a great cause: Scouting in Central Illinois. Boys (and in the case of Venturing Crews, girls) in our area rely on popcorn sales money to fund both their local Packs, Dens, and Crews, as well as The Prairielands Council, our regional Boy Scout organization. The money you spend on popcorn today helps fund scouting opportunities all throughout our area, including camping, Pinewood Derby, and adventure opportunities, and kids throughout Central Illinois are thankful for your support!
