Urbana’s Market at the Square invites families with children ages 3-8 to Sprouts at the Market this Saturday, July 15, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Sprouts is a free monthly program intended to educate young children – and their caregivers – about eating seasonally and healthfully in Illinois throughout the market season.
On Saturday kids will get to decorate a tote bag and then fill it with their favorite in-season fruits and vegetables using a $2 voucher good towards produce purchased on July 15. For details visit urbanamarket.org or call 217-384-2319.
Sprouts takes place once a month through the end of the market season. Three more Sprouts programs are planned:
Aug. 19: Learn about the five senses and take them on tour of the fresh produce available at the farmers market.
Sept. 16: The Great Sprouts Exploration encourages children to explore the market to find all of the clues to help solve various puzzles. Children will receive a prize for completing the Great Sprouts Exploration.
Oct. 21: There is a lot of science behind farming and our Sprouts are going to learn all about it as they take part in three experiments using food. This is one chance when children are strongly encouraged to play with their food!
