Parents, fear not: Many of the same local institutions that excel at summer camps rev up their programming over winter break as well.
Whether you work full-time, part-time, at-home, overnight, or whatever the case may be, these are great options for parents who need to — or want to — send their kids for at least one of the events listed below. In most cases, paying for single days is possible. These programs all have fun featured front and center — the childcare is just a bonus! Pack a sack lunch and send your child on his/her merry way.
The Little Gym: Geared for ages 3-8, camps are available with various themes for the weeks of Dec. 19-25 and Dec. 26-Jan. 1. Price is $30 per camp day.
KOOP Winter Adventure Camp at University Primary School Two sessions are offered with lots of options. For ages 4-12. Available on Dec. 21-23 and Jan. 2-4. Cost is $100 for half days and $150 for full days.
Champaign Park District The district’s programs are geared toward elementary school-age children (kindergarten to fifth grade). There will be programs on Dec. 22, 27, 28, 29 and 30. Costs range from $30 to $50 per day for residents and $45 to $75 per day for non-residents.
Savoy Rec Center The program also covers Dec. 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30. Camp runs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. Cost to participate is $38 per day for Savoy residents and $49 for non-residents. For children ages 5-12.
Stephens Family YMCA The Y has camps on most days when the Champaign Unit 4 schools are on break including Dec. 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and Jan. 2, 3 and 4. For ages 5-12. Cost is $35 for members, $40 for non-members.
I-Power School of Gymnastics I-Power’s winter camps are geared for kids age 5-14. Camp runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended care available.
