In fact, even parents who may be on vacation or stay at home may want to consider sending your kiddos for at least one of the events listed below (in most cases, paying for single days is possible). These programs all have fun featured front and center–the childcare is just a bonus! Pack a sack lunch and send your child on his/her merry way.
Stephen’s Family YMCA The Y has camps on most days when the Champaign Unit 4 schools are on break including Dec. 22, 23, 29, 30, Jan. 2, and Jan. 5. Activities include crafts, games, indoor/outdoor play, and homework time. Campers ages 5-12 are welcome to register–advanced registration is required–and the cost is $30 per day for members, more for guest members. You can pick and choose individual days on which your kids will participate.
Champaign Park District The district’s programs are geared toward elementary school-age children (kindergarten to fifth grade). There will be programs either at the Douglass Community Center and/or the Leonhard Recreation Center on 12/22, 12/23, 12/29, 12/30, 1/5. Costs range from $36 to $50/day for residents and $54 to $75/day for non-residents.
Urbana Park District Their program for kids aged 5-12 will be held at the Boat House at Crystal Lake Park and costs $33- $41 per day for residents (non-resident cost is $49-$61/day). Dates are: 12/19, 12/22, 12/23, 12/26, 12/29, 12/30, and 1/2. Each date features a full day (7:30-5:30) of programming; single day participation is possible. Early bird alert: Sign up early to get reduced rates.
Savoy Rec Center Their program also covers12/22, 12/23, 12/26, 12/29, 12/30, 1/2, 1/5. Camp at the rec center lasts from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily. Cost to participate is $38 per day for Savoy residents and $49 for non-residents. The first registration deadline is 12/15.
The Little Gym in Urbana is offering morning and afternoon Winter Camps Dec. 29 – Jan. 2 including camps specifically designed for kids 5-12 years old. For more information, call 217-352-5500.
