Not all of us are lucky enough to have a two-week break from work during the winter holiday season, although our kids are! Wouldn’t it be wonderful? If you are looking for childcare for your children this winter break, look no further than our list of winter break camps in Champaign-Urbana. Most of these camps are for school-age children. Don’t fret – we will list winter break fun for the entire family in another post, so if you are home for the holidays, we will make sure you know what is happening!

Stephens Family YMCA: School’s Out Days, for Grades K-5, includes supervised free play, interactive group games, crafts and indoor/outdoor physical exercise. Advance registration is required. Cost is $30 per day. Days available: December 26-28; 26-30; and Jan. 2, 3, 4, 7.
Champaign Park District:
Winter Holiday Camp, Dec. 26-28: Kids from kindergarten through fifth grade are welcome to the CPD’s Winter Holiday Camp featuring crafts, baking, and games related to the season. At the Springer Cultural Center. Drop off starts at 7:30 a.m. and pick up goes to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $75 for residents, $112.50 non-residents (for all three days; single days not available). Registration deadline is Dec. 19.
Rube Goldberg Camp, Jan. 2-4: Enroll your young inventor from kindergarten through fifth grade and he or she will spend three days planning, testing, and perfecting a Rube Goldberg machine. Materials will be provided, and inventors will work in “think tanks” (teams) to design, construct, and perfect their machines over the three days of camp. Inventors will also participate in a few traditional camp activities each day to keep them active such as ice skating, swimming and bowling. Deadline to register is Dec. 12. Drop off starts at 7:30 a.m. and pick up goes to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $100 for residents, $150 non-residents (for all three days; single days not available). At the Leonhard Recreation Center.
Savoy Recreation Center: If you’re in need or would prefer an all-day program for your school-age children (ages 5 to 12), sign up for the Savoy Recreation Center’s Schools Out Kidz Club. Available on December 26, 27, 28, January 2, 3, 4, 7. Kids can stay from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. Children will enjoy sports, crafts, games and more! $26 per day for residents; $34 non-residents. Registration Deadline starts Dec. 19.
Urbana Park District: The UPD Holiday Camp is for kids ages 5 to 12 and goes from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on December 21, 26, 27, 28 and Jan. 2, 3, 4. Take trips to the movie theatre, bowling alley, ice rink and more. Campers will also join in fun games and make cool holiday crafts. Camp meets at Anita Purves Nature Center. Register early and get a rate of $32/day resident, $48 non-resident; after Dec. 7, cost is $40 per day for residents; $60/day non-residents.
Orpheum Children’s Science Museum Mini-Camps: For kids in K-5th grade. Runs from Dec. 26-28 and Jan. 2-4. Full day and half-day options available; full day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m.; half day 8:30 a.m. to noon. From Dec. 26-28: Science and Art mini-camp. Campers will explore both sides of their brain through drawing, painting, sculpting, and much more! Jan. 2-4 is Super Science mini-camp. Campers will explore new topics, conduct experiments, and be creative with science-themed crafts while developing critical-thinking skills and working in teams. I-Power Gymnastics School’s Out Fun Day: Jan. 7 only. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gymnastics, craft time, movie time, games. $65 per day, late pickup/early drop-off available for an extra fee. Registration due one week before the actual camp date. Call to get registered. 359-3547
