Kids Movement Arts of Champaign/Urbana is a fine arts program serving schools and facilities across the local area. Started by Aaron and Abigail Chen, their heart and desire is to empower and equip children in the areas of movement arts through the mediums of dance and Kung Fu to grow and develop in students:

  • Respect for each other, parents and teachers
  • Discipline and self-control
  • Positive character traits
  • Perseverance and endurance
  • Healthy self-esteem and self-worth

The concept and curricula were developed to provide families with a convenient, affordable way for children to enjoy and study various movement arts in a positive, fun atmosphere. Kids Movement Arts is currently partnering with Chesterbrook Academy and South Side Elementary this fall, and Next Generation School beginning in February.  In addition to offering classes at these local schools, Kids Movement Arts has found a home at the McKinley Fitness Center (former YMCA) and offers dance and Dragon Claw Kung Fu for the whole family.

Both the dance and martial arts programs are designed to develop the child’s mind/body connection, as well as the “movement specialist” inside of them. While their creativity is fostered and proper technique is mastered, children will also build muscle strength and improve body posture, balance, coordination, and flexibility. Children will also gain discipline, self-control, confidence and better focus at school and at home.

Registration is now open at the McKinley Fitness Center for Intro to Dance, Ballet and Contemporary Modern ages 3 and up, and Kung Fu ages 4 to adult. Those that register for classes at McKinley before Nov. 1 will receive 20% off of their first three months tuition as well as a free shirt! Classes meet once or twice per week depending on age and discounts are available for multiple classes, as well as for siblings. All are welcome to come try a class for free by contacting Kids Movement Arts.

As in all quality movement arts programs, parents will have the assurance that their children are learning acquired skills in dance and martial arts that will assist and supplement their physical, mental and social development. As a traveling Fine Arts program, KMA, however, provides parents the added benefit of convenience, since they don’t have to find time to take their children to one more activity at the end of the day.

If you would like to see Kids Movement Arts offered at your school or receive more information about classes at the McKinley Fitness Center please email info@kidsmovementarts.com, call 217-274-8382, or visit online at www.kidsmovementarts.com
