The back-to-school shopping season is not light on the wallet. According to the National Retail Foundation’s 2012 Back-to-School spending survey conducted by BIGinsight, the average person with children in grades K-12 will spend $688.62 on their children, up from $603.63 last year.
So it may come as a relief to know where you can get a break — and have your school-age child’s hair cut for free!
That’s right – free kids’ haircuts! Just in time for kids heading back-to-school, JC Penney salons (now known as JCP) are offering free haircuts for kids in kindergarten to sixth grades, throughout the month of August. They are also donating $1 from every haircut to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and 4H.
All you have to do is call JCP — locally in Market Place Mall — and set up an appointment. The main number is (217) 352-7236.
We’ve written about a few other local freebies for kids lately:
– Free football ticket for signing up for the Fighting Illini Kids Club
– Free books for students from the Champaign Public Library’s Friends Bookstore, the weekend of August 25-26
Do you know of any local freebies we should add to the list? Tell us in the comments!

Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer
but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any points for beginner blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
