Where’s Waldo?

Waldo will be hiding in more than a dozen downtown Champaign businesses. Find him and win prizes! Photo by Minta Herold
We’ve been asking ourselves that question for 25 years. To celebrate this milestone anniversary of the red-and-white striped sweater-wearing literary lurker, Jane Addams Book Shop in downtown Champaign is sponsoring a contest to find as many Waldos as possible between July 1st and 31st.
So, seriously, WHERE’S Waldo?
A special Waldo figure will be hidden in each the following stores, all of which are in the downtown Champaign area, during the month of July:
- Copasetic Consignments
- Aroma Cafe
- indi go Artist Co-op
- Christopher’s Fine Jewelry Design
- Champaign Surplus
- The News-Gazette
- Furniture Lounge
- Kessler Optical
- G-Mart Comics
- CV Lloyde
- Austin’s Sportswear
- Carrie’s
- Exile on Main Street
- Merry Ann’s Diner
- The Art Theater
- Orpheum Children’s Science Museum
- Dandelion Vintage and Used Clothing Store
- Skins N Tins
- Ten Thousand Villages
- Jane Addams Book Shop
Visit Jane Addams Book Shop if you’d like a special check-off sheet of the stores and their locations.
When your crew spots a Waldo in a store, let the clerk know and you will receive a card confirming your sighting. Collect these cards and turn them in ASAP — the first 100 spotters to turn in 8 slips to Jane Addams will receive a special Waldo button.
When you collect 16 cards, turn those in for a button AND to be entered into a drawing for a 6-book set of the Where’s Waldo? series and a lot of other great prizes.
And, plan to attend the Waldo Grand Celebration and prize drawing on July 31 at 6 p.m.!
See you on the hunt for Waldo…
Rachael McMillan just took part-time job number 5,482: teaching sixth- and seventh-grade history at Campus Middle School for girls. She also tutors at The Reading Group and serves as the education coordinator for Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade retailer in downtown Champaign. She is totally in love with her Chambana life, which she shares with husband Scott, kindergartner Kate and first-grader Jack.
SO FUN! Wonder which (if any) of these stores are open on the 4th…
