What: Quad Cinema: The Lorax

Appropriate for: All ages (if they can stay up!)
Why you should go: See the Lorax on the Quad for free. BYOP – Bring your own popcorn. Let the kids stay up late!
What: Children’s Classical Music Series — Tchaikovsky
Where: Urbana Free Library
When: Friday, June 15, 2 p.m.
How Much: Free
Appropriate for: all ages
Why You Should Go: Take a break from the heat. Draw, color, or read while you listen to Tchaikovsky music CDs with us this summer. This month we will feature cute and colorful “Peter and the Wolf”. Brave Peter, a fierce wolf, a curious duck, and other animals are represented with different instruments in this orchestral piece.
What: Sprouts at the Market
When: Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Where: Market at the Square, Lincoln Square, Urbana
How much: Free
Appropriate for: Kids 3-8
Why you should go: June’s event will have special emphasis on farms and farmers, along with in-season produce sampling, and nutrition/mealtime information. We’ll be there, so come say hi!
What: Juneteenth
When: Saturday, June 16, . to 3 p.m.
Where: Douglass Park and Douglass Branch Library, 512 E. Grove Street, Champaign
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why you should go: Take your family and friends to the Douglass Branch Library and Douglass Park for summer fun and games to celebrate 147 years since the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas and freed the last of the slaves. Storytellers, a Magician, many games and prizes.
What: Strawberry Jam
When: Saturday, June 16, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Meadowbrook Park, Urbana
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why you should go: Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and some chairs and settle in for an afternoon of family fun. This annual favorite event features free ice cream, strawberries, music and hayrack rides around picturesque Meadowbrook Park. Live folk music seals the deal. Park across the street!
What: Center City Summer Stage
When: 4 p.m. Saturday June 16
Where: Campustown on Green St. between Wright and Sixth.
How Much: free
Appropriate For: all ages
Why You Should Go: This family-friendly event will be bringing live, local music back to Campustown on Green Street between Wright and Sixth.
Six local bands will take the stage for an awesome night of music, food, drinks and fun! Look for sidewalk sales and retailer events beginning starting at 4:00 including Scovill Zoo Moblie Zoo (between Legends and Chipotle); Cookie Decorating, Bagel Toss, and Prizes at Panera; and a one-hour Coach Tim Beckman Autograph Session at Gameday Spirit between 5-6. Music starts at 6 p.m and continues till midnight!
What: Father’s Day at Sholem Aquatic Center
When: Sunday June 17, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Sholem Aquatic Center, Champaign
How Much: Dad is free; regular entry fees apply for everyone else
Appropriate For: all ages
Why You Should Go: Dads get in FREE plus we’ve planned plenty of great activities that will keep your family smiling all day long including: “The Hop & Flop Daddy Drop” – a dads-only cannon ball contest with some fun prizes; the “Father Knows Best” trivia contest; a “Draw Your Dad” contest for kids ages 3-12; and half-price rootbeer floats for all dads at The Oasis concessions stand.
