Even if your child has been in preschool or child care, there’s something special about kindergarten that makes all parents get a little bit teary-eyed.
Moms and dads can start busting out the hankies because pre-registration for kindergarten in several area districts is coming up soon.
Parents of students entering kindergarten in the Urbana School District No. 116 for the 2012-2013 school year are invited to register their child early and receive a “fun bag” full of activities and materials to use with their child over the summer.
Pre-registration is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at the Urbana Civic Center.
If you are planning to pre-register your child, the district requests that you bring the following items:
- Your child’s original birth certificate
- A Photo ID
- Proof of residence in Urbana (generally a utility bill will suffice)
- Phone numbers for doctors and emergency contacts
If a language other than English is spoken in the home, parents are also asked to bring their child for an English as a Second Language Screening.
More information for parents is available online.
St. Joseph Grade School will be conducting pre-registration for children eligible to enter kindergarten next fall. The registration will be held from Monday, April 16 through Friday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Grade School Office.
Registrations may be completed in person, by phoning the Grade School Office at 469-2291, and forms can be downloaded from the district website or by emailing the office at email@example.com.
To be eligible for kindergarten a child must turn 5 by September 1, 2012.
In Mahomet, parents can get the lowdown on kindergarten in that district by attending the 2012-1013 kindergarten round-up event, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 12. Parents are asked to leave the kids at home, and will be able to complete registration paperwork for their child and hear an overview of the kindergarten program.
Don’t forget to bring the tissues!
