Spring Break is quietly sneaking up on us — don’t look now, but for Champaign and Urbana schools, mid-March will be here before we know it.
If you’re looking for Spring Break childcare and/or stuff to keep your child occupied while school is out, there are a bunch of options in town. So what did we do? We made a list!
Everything below is subject to availability … call ahead to sign up or register, and do it soon.
Orpheum Children’s Science Museum: These camps are either in the morning or afternoon (full day campers can sign up for both, from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Themes include wizardry, grossology and animals. Each session is $23 for members, $26 for non-members, or pay $210 members, $230 non-members. For kids ages kindergarten to 5th grade.
Champaign County YMCA: School’s Out Days, for Grades K-5, includes supervised free play, interactive group games, crafts and indoor/outdoor physical exercise. Due to the staff and student ratios upheld by the YMCA, advance registration is required; must be done in person. Cost is $28 per day (six days, March 16, 19-23); held at Champaign County YMCA.
Champaign Park District: Make the most of your break with these offerings. March 16 means March Madness, a day of everything basketball, including a tour of the Illinois basketball facility. Cost – $39 resident, $58.50 non-resident; Deadline – March 2. During the week of March 19-23, Kruzin Kids will take kids to a new facility every day, including the Children’s Discovery Museum in Normal; Miller Park Zoo, Decatur; Peoria Zoo & Riverplex; Wildlife Prairie State Park. Deadline is March 5; cost is $46/day for resisdents, $69 non-resident; deadline is March 5. For kids K- 5th grade.
Champaign Urbana Special Rec: Searching for something fun to do over your Spring break? Join us for days filled with activities, games, arts, crafts, cooking and a fabulous field trip. March 19-23 9 am-3 pm at the Spalding Recreation Center. Fee (R/NR): $100/$150; CUSR provides leisure and recreation opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. This activity is for ages 7 to 22.
Kids Plus Unit 4: The Champaign Unit 4 Kids Plus program offers a week camp March 19-23 for children who are at regular calendar schools. There is a separate program for children who attend Barkstall and Kenwood schools, both balanced calendar schools, held at Barkstall.
Savoy Recreation Center: An all-day program for school-age children (ages 5 to 12) is also available through Savoy Recreation Center’s Kidz Club. Kids can stay from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. $95 per week for residents; $123 non-residents. Available for all three weeks of the Unit 4 balanced calendar intersession, March 19-23; 26-30; April 2-6. Deadline is March 12.
Urbana Park District: For kids ages 5 to 11. Play games, create crafts, go on hikes and field trips, play sports, eat snacks, watch movies and more! Camp meets at Anita Purves Nature Center. Sign up for the entire week (March 19-23) or just the days that you need. Register early to get a better rate ($168 resident/$336 NR) by March 5; $210 resident/$420 non-resident by March 13.
