September 1 – Already? We’ve Got It Covered

Our monthly e-newsletter came out today, full of ideas for what to do with your family this September. Each month, we send out our picks for the top 10 family-friendly events for the upcoming month. Our hope is that it will help you map out your month – print it out, clip it on your calendar, put it on the fridge – whatever works for you.

Without further ado, here are our top 10 events for September. Did we miss some of your favorites? Leave them in the comments!

1. CU Folk and Roots Festival, Sept. 23-25. A campfire song session, a mainstage family show, a young performer showcase, hands-on art and music workshops, a parade and a family dance. And that’s just the beginning; many free events.

2. The Champaign County AFL-CIO Labor Day Parade, aka “The Candy Parade.” The parade gets started at 10:00 a.m. in Urbana; a Celebration Party follows at Prairie Park with food, beverages, inflatable games for the children. Don’t forget to bring a bag.

3. Orchard Days in Savoy, Sept. 17-19. Enjoy carnival rides (armbands available!), face painting, crafts, music and more.

4. 40th Annual Arcola Broom Corn Festival, Sept. 10-12. Featuring one of the best and most unique parades in Central Illinois. Free.

5. Opening Night Party, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Sept. 10. Enjoy Latin jazz, food tents, and family-friendly activities in the lobby. $5 per person.

6. Urbana Park District Jazz Walk, Sept. 10, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Take a stroll in Meadowbrook Park and listen to several jazz bands along the way. An annual favorite.  Free!

7. Back-to-School Bash at Cakes on Walnut, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. Stories, cupcake decorating, balloon art, and face painting.

8. Staerkel Planetarium’s Re-Opening. The revamped, upgraded facility re-opens Sept. 10, featuring a new all-ages show.

9. The Dome Theater Experience at Champaign Public Library, Sept. 25. An exciting way to learn about science in a mini-IMAX experience. Several shows for various school-age audiences; FREE!

10. Divine Consign, Sept. 23-25 at Grace Community Church, Champaign Clean out your closets and earn some money – as well as shop till you drop without feeling guilty.
