Weekly Spotlight: Our Picks for the Week(days) Ahead

With the kids back in school, University of Illinois classes underway, and the calendar turning to September (ugh!) soon, we have temporarily retired our “Seven Events in Seven Days” series until next June. In its place, we will alert you to some events around town we think are noteworthy, most of which don’t fit in with our Weekend Planner.

Why: One Week Boutique is the area’s largest baby and child consignment event. Toys, games, clothes, baby gear — you name it, they’ve got it. It is held twice a year, with the Fall/Winter sale coming up Aug. 27-30 at the old Best Buy building (606 W. Anthony Drive in Champaign, visible from I-74). One tip: we never miss the half-price sale, to be held on Monday from noon to 7 p.m. Find some more tips about One Week Boutique in our archive.

In the Spotlight:
Cherry Jam featuring I-Pan
Why: Warm up for this weekend’s Urbana Sweetcorn Festival with this performance of Chambana’s favorite steel-drum band. Free – outside the Urbana Free Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

In the Spotlight: Not Back to School Picnic
Why:
Do you homeschool? Are you thinking about homeschooling? Join the CU-HOUSE (Home Oriented Unique Schooling Experience) sponsored Not Back to School Picnic on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Hessel Park in Champaign. The party will go from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; bring a dish to share. RSVP’s are requested; visit the CU-HOUSE website for more information.
