This will be our last seven events in seven days post of the summer … but don’t fret! We’re still planning to hit the weekly event highlights, although in a different way.
So, without further ado, here’s our tips on what to do and where to go during the week of August 18-24. Of course, we’ll still bring you our full Weekend Planner on Friday morning. All events are free admission unless noted.
Wednesday, August 18
Don’t miss: OK, so it’s not in Chambana, but we’ve been dying to get up to the Chicago Bears training camp in Bourbonnais. We’ve heard it is very family-friendly, and free! Practice is from 3-5 p.m.; the Bears close camp and return to Chicago after practice on Thursday.

Thursday, August 19
Don’t miss: Kick off the 2010-2011 school year at Garden Hills Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free event, sponsored by the Champaign Park District, features inflatables, contests, music, and games.
Friday, August 20
Don’t miss: If you haven’t taken your kid to a tractor pull this year, you still have a chance — and the kids can participate. At the Mansfield Homecoming, the FREE kiddie tractor pull goes from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for ages 3 and up. Everyone gets a prize!
Saturday, August 21
Don’t miss: Your 4- to 7-year-old will love the Tolono Public Library’s back to school bash, complete with a craft, a relay race, a scavenger hunt and more. Head over there at 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, August 22
Don’t miss: So your kids probably aren’t old enough to be in a registered student organization at the University of Illinois. But if you’re brave enough to fight the crowds at Quad Day, your family can enjoy appearances by the likes of the Marching Illini, who will perform on the steps of Foellinger Auditorium at noon; event goes through 4 p.m.
Monday, August 23
Don’t miss: With school back in session, the pools may be closed; but the Hessel Park water feature is still on! Head over during the day or in the evening.
Tuesday, August 24
Don’t miss: Head to the new Mahomet Public Library for storyteller Camille Born, who will weave her tales with animal puppets at 7 p.m. For all ages; call 586-2611 or visit the library to register.
