Top Five: Date Night Ideas

Face it, being a parent can suck all your energy, romantic or otherwise. That’s why Date Night was invented — to remember why you got together (and made those kids!) in the first place. Chambana has lots of options for date night activities, so here’s our Top Five:

1. Dinner and a movie
A classic date-night one-two punch. There are so many wonderful, romantic eateries here in town. We love Milos, Cafe Luna, Escobar’s and Baccaro, just for starter’s. Don’t limit yourself to the multiplex, either — try catching an indie flick at the Art Theater in downtown Champaign.

2. Long Lunch
A lunch date is a great way to reconnect, especially if you’re both already working out of the house. Take an hour to linger over a menu that doesn’t include chicken fingers or macaroni and cheese. Silvercreek is a great place to grab a noontime bite with lots of atmosphere. Bonus: No babysitter needed!

3. Picnic at Allerton Park
Is there a more romantic spot in Piatt County? We can’t think of one. This is, of course, a warmer weather date night, but grab a picnic basket stuffed with grown-up goodies like Prarie Fruit Farms cheese and some fresh-baked bread from Pekara. Go at dusk and enjoy the sunset.

4. Sweets for the sweet
Put the kids to bed and get a sitter for an hour or two and get coffee and dessert with your sweetie. Cakes on Walnut has both cupcakes and cocktails, or share a shake from Cozy’s Custard or Jarling’s Custard Cup.

5. Date Night At Home
Rent a romantic movie and whip up a buffet of appetizers. Put the kids to bed, dim the lights and have a snuggle on the couch. Great movies for lovers? Try a classic like “Casablanca” or “The Philadelphia Story,” or a more modern tale like “Manhattan” or “Bridges of Madison County.”

What’s your favorite date-night activity? And keep it clean, folks.

Please don’t forget the local music scene. Especially in the summer. My husband and I love to attend outdoor concerts (think free entertainment).

Amber, that’s a great add. We’ve seen some awesome bands at Iron Post.
