Author Jennifer Weiner Coming to Chambana!

by Laura Weisskopf Bleill

Jennifer Weiner’s debut novel, “Good in Bed,” was so much fun to read that I had no problem buying my mother-in-law a copy (which was signed, but more on that later). Let’s go over that again: I bought my mother-in-law a copy of a book called Good in Bed. Yes, it was that good.

Several books and almost a decade later, Weiner — a best-selling author and one of the first ladies of “chick lit” — will be speaking and signing books at the Champaign Public Library on July 25. The event will take place just weeks after the release of her newest novel, “Fly Away Home,” the story of a mother and her adult daughters and how they react to an adulterous scandal by their politician husband/father.

Author Jennifer Weiner will visit the Champaign Public Library on July 25.

Due to limited space, tickets for the July 25th event will be distributed starting July 10 at 10 a.m. Champaign residents have first dibs; each person may receive only two tickets, and they must be picked up in person (bring proof of your address, such as a bill). If tickets still remain, they will be released to the general public. (Seating to see the program via live video feed will also be available).

Chambanamoms.com has been fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of “Fly Away Home,” and we will post our review here as soon as possible. In addition, we will be giving away  “Fly Away Home” to one lucky chambanamoms.com reader later this month. (None received, sorry folks). Starting July 9, CPL will also have Weiner’s books for sale on the premises; proceeds will go to the library.

This will actually be Weiner’s second appearance in Champaign. She was in town for an event on campus in 2003, when I was able to get several signed books and gifts (including Good in Bed and In Her Shoes).

Want to ask Jennifer Weiner a question? We will be sending her a list of questions for a Q and A article next week. We welcome your submissions on our contact page, here in the comments or directly to editor@chambanamoms.com. Please make all contributions by July 9.

Interesting! I just read In Her Shoes last week on vacation. A fun beach read. Got it at a garage sale in Champaign. Will have to check out her other books…
