Seven Events in Seven Days: Our Guide to the Week Ahead

The summer months mean that having fun isn’t limited to the weekend. There’s something fun happening practically every day of the week.

We’ve got a few tips on what to do and where to go during the week of July 7-14.

Wednesday, July 7

Don’t miss: It’s Children’s Day at the Fisher Fair. Head over in the morning for games, a pedal tractor pull, prizes and more; or go in the evening and purchase a bracelet for unlimited carnival rides.

Thursday, July 8

The curtain will go up on Honk! Jr., a Champaign Park District youth theater production, on Thursday, July 8.

Don’t miss: The Champaign Park District’s children’s production of Honk! Junior opens on the first of a two-day run at Class Act: Interactive Education and Events (114 S. Neil). Tickets are available at the door for $5; seats are limited, so get there early. Shows are at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Friday, July 9

Don’t miss: Storytime at Bella Bambini! Head over to Bella on 1422 S. Neil St. at 10 a.m. for a fun morning with Class Act’s Natalie Ellis. Free.

Saturday, July 10

Don’t miss: Another amazing summer Saturday – hard to pick just one! But here’s something that requires advance registration: Learn to canoe at Homer Lake.  Children must be at least 8 and with a supervisor. $8 per person, or $4 if you bring your own canoe. Sunday, July 11

Don’t miss: The Viper and His Famous Orchestra, will be doing a show for kids at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum. There will be two sets (1:30 and 2:30 p.m.) in a addition to a build-an-instrument workshop with The Viper and His Famous Orchestra. One lucky child will go home with a freshly put-together washtub bass. *We are awaiting confirmation and details of this event.*

Monday, July 12

Don’t miss: Do you want your school-aged child to be more self-sufficient in the kitchen? Then check out Cookin’ and Movin’ at the Tolono Public Library at 2 p.m. Conducted by Betty from the U of I Extension, this program includes fun activities and preparation of nutritious no-cook snacks. Please register at the Tolono library for this event.

Tuesday, July 13

Don’t miss: Visit the Champaign Public Library and learn what it meant to be an American soldier during Revolutionary War with re-enactor Deane Geiken. Free; at 2 p.m., geared towards school-aged children.
