July 2010 Monthly Planner – Did You Get It?

Today we knocked off one of our to-do list items: the creation of a monthly chambanamoms.com e-newsletter. On the first day of each month, we will send you a list of the Top 10 family-friendly events happening in and around Champaign County for the next 30 (or 31) days. Our goal is to hit the highlights so that you can plan ahead (what’s that?) for the fun to be had in our area.

We invited you to take a look at the July 2010 Monthly Planner. If you’re not yet on our mailing list, you can sign up over there —————————–> on the side bar. Just scroll down and enter your name and e-mail, and you will be entered in our database. You can always opt out, of course.

We’re also repeating our list here, so just in case you delete or misplace that message, you can reference it all the time. And, we’ll have more information on these events as the time comes.

Top 10 Events in July

1. Fourth of July in East Central Illinois — check out our Holiday Guide for info about parades, fireworks and more!

2. Champaign County Fair, July 23-31. We know that Bracelet Day (unlimited carnival rides for $20 from noon to 5 p.m. July 25) as well as preschool day (10 a.m. to noon July 26) will be very popular.

3. Champaign Music Festival, July 9-10. Celebrate the city’s 150th birthday with two days of free music in downtown Champaign.

4. The Fisher Fair, July 6-10. This is one of the craziest, silliest, most fun fairs around. Lots to see and do, and of course rides.

5. Touch a Truck in Rantoul, July 10, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first hour will be horn- and siren-free. Behind the Chanute Air Museum; $2.00 per person or $10.00 per family. Trucks, airplanes, more.

6. Bagelfest, July 15-17 in Mattoon. It’s Bagelfest’s 25th anniversary! Check out the parade on July 17 at 10:30 a.m.

7. Sprouts at the Market, July 24. Kids 3-8 will learn about colors and food in this free monthly program for kids at Urbana’s Market at the Square. We’ll have a booth there too – come say hi!

8. Youth theater: Honk! Junior, a Champaign Park District production, will be playing at Champaign’s Class Act Interactive from July 8-9. Once Upon A Mattress, an Urbana Park District production, will be performed July 28-31 at Foellinger Auditorium.

9. U of I Summer Band Twilight Concert, July 22 at 7 p.m. on the UI Quadrangle, a tradition going back 100 years.

10. NASCAR fans in your house? Head over to the Macon County Speedway (south of Decatur) for Night of NASCAR Stars II on Monday, July 5 with NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader. The trio will sign autographs from 5 to 6 p.m.
