Chambana Mom Today, Talk Show Host Tomorrow?

by Amy L. Hatch

Chambana’s own Marie Polk is throwing her hat into the ring to be the next talk-show sensation on Oprah Winfrey’s new television network, OWN.

The contest, which has generated more than 9,000 entries, promises the winner a spot on a new TV network, the latest venture by Winfrey, who is winding down her own famous and long-running Chicago-based “Oprah” show.

Polk is a natural fit, we think, seeing as she’s already an experienced TV host — she has her very own show, “C-U Mommy Connection” on UPTV Channel 6, Urbana’s public access network.

“The goal of the show is to enrich the lives of mommies and babies everywhere,” said Polk, a Danville native who has lived in the area all her life. “The show will be informative, educational, and fun. Tune in to see moms from the community supporting one another and sharing in the wonderful experience of motherhood.”

Polk came up with the idea for “C-U Mommy Connection” several months after she found out she was pregnant. Friends she made at a local prenatal yoga class and who she continues to meet with once a week now that all their babies were born helped inspire her to produce the show.

To host a show that would inspire, education and connect new mothers. Polk already does that on a local level here in Champaign-Urbana, but now she wants to take that concept to the next level. We also know she has the chutzpa to do it — after being laid off from her job and having a baby, she took her inspiration and made it a reality.

As of this writing, Polk’s “audition” video on the contest website has 72 votes. Go show her some chambanamoms.com love — and maybe when she makes it to the big time, she’ll remember all of us when it’s time to give away a car or a house. It just takes a minute to cast your vote.

Good luck, Marie! Chambana is rooting for you!

Amy, you guys are awesome! Thank you for your continued support. I am so proud to be a Chambana mom. Please vote but I also need your well wishes, good vibes and prayers. The top five vote getters will move on the next round BUT everyone else will be handpicked by OWN’s producers. So, my chances are still very good! I will proudly represent Champaign-Urbana in L.A. Thanks again!
