Founded in 1962 as an outgrowth of a parent study group, the school has its roots in the home of Dr. Ben Williams and his wife, and has been in its current location in Savoy since 1984. In 1994, the school added a 2,000-square-foot all-purpose room, and today it houses seven preschool classes, a kindergarten class, and an extended day Montessori program and wrap-around child care.
Just what is Montessori? It is an educational method developed Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator, and it stresses the development of a child’s own initiative and natural abilities, especially through practical play.
