Seven Events in Seven Days: A Guide to the Week Ahead

The summer months mean that having fun isn’t limited to the weekend. There’s something fun happening practically every day of the week.

We’ve got a few tips on what to do and where to go during the week of June 16-22.

Wednesday, June 16

Don’t miss: Bring your lunch to the Urbana Free Library and hear some free live music during Cherry Jam, an outdoor concert held every Wednesday from June to September. Starts at 11:30 a.m. This week: the Sugar Prophets.

Bring your budding scientists and computer junkies for a tour of the Petascale Computer Center.

Thursday, June 17
Don’t miss: Take your budding scientist to tour the University’s state-of-the-art National Petascale Computing Facility, the building that will house the world’s most powerful supercomputer when it comes online in 2011, at an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Located at the corner of Oak and St. Mary’s Road, Champaign.

Friday, June 18
Don’t miss: Start off your Father’s Day weekend with a concert that dad might enjoy – Classic Rock tunes by The No Secret Band. Head over to Krannert Center for the Performing Arts for this 5 p.m. free show in the lobby.

Saturday, June 19
Don’t miss: Hard to pick just one event on this jam-packed day (don’t worry, we’ll bring you weekend planner on Friday). But we thought we’d give you the heads up on the Kids Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to noon at Kaufman Lake (for 6 to 12-year-olds). Fill out the form in advance (find it here) to bring to the event.

Sunday, June 20
Don’t miss: It’s Father’s Day! Take a road trip to Peoria and watch some minor league baseball. Kids can play catch on the field with their dads afterward.

Monday, June 21
Don’t miss: It’s Summer Solstice Day! Celebrate the fruits of the season and go pick blueberries (if available) at Pontious Farm in White Heath.

Tuesday, June 22
Don’t miss: It’s family game night at the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum from 6 to 8 p.m. The museum is open late until 8, and will provide a variety of games such as trivia night, scavenger hunts, giant chess, human checkers, bowling, and many more!
