It’s looking like a great summer weekend filled with family-friendly options. In this edition: Playing It Safe; Touch a Tractor; Brocton Draft Horse Show; Get Wrapped Up in Ancient Egypt; Horton The Elephant.
What: Playing It Safe
When: Saturday, June 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Champaign County Fairgrounds, Urbana
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Free food, inflatables, face painting and more. Kids and grown-ups will learn about how to be safe this summer and year-round during this interactive fest. Check out our write-up of the bike rodeo and the child identification package; and much more!
What: Touch A Tractor
When: Saturday, June 5, 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Prairie Farm, Champaign
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why you should go: Farm implements, crafts, music and more highlight this annual event. Oh, and animals too!
What: Draft Horse Show
When: Noon on Saturday and Sunday
Where: Brocton, IL (click to get driving directions)
How Much: Free
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why You Should Go: Because all kids love horses, and draft horses are really, really big. Plus much more to enjoy at the Brocton Spring Festival.
What: Get Wrapped up in Ancient Egypt
When: Sunday, June 6, 1 to 4 p.m.
Where: Spurlock Museum
How much: $3
Appropriate for: 8-13
Why you should go: When we checked with Spurlock, there was still room in this program that requires pre-registration. Participants will visit hands-on stations that highlight the mummy-making process and head home with their own tomb-to-go! What: Horton The Elephant
When: Sunday, June 6 at 3 p.m.
Where: Bahá’í Center, 807 E. Green St., Urbana.
How Much: Tickets range from $3-7
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why You Should Go: A great opportunity for kids to watch other kids on stage. This is a short show, perfect for those with short attention spans.
