Still seeking the perfect gift for your mom/wife/grandmother/daughter/aunt/stepmom/friend/granddaughter/niece/sister/sister-in-law/mother-in-law/friend (goodness gracious, that’s a lot of gifts!)? Look no further than the 2010 chambanamoms.com Mother’s Day Gift Guide.

We asked some local merchants to give us their top picks for gifts for the ubiquitous Hallmark holiday that is — as if you didn’t already know — this Sunday, May 9. The only restriction: we asked that the gifts be under $50. Here’s some of our favorites (hint hint):

Bella Mia, 1422 S. Neil St., Champaign

Bella Mia shoesOK, so shoes don’t rank up there with flowers, candy, or gardening tools as a very traditional Mother’s Day gift — and that’s why we love this idea. It was all I could do to stop myself from running out there and buying them for myself.

Black patent leather wedge shoes, $49.00

Checkered Moon, 1731 W. Kirby Ave., Champaign
deadsexyCheckered Moon has to be on our short list of our local favorite places to buy anyone a gift for practically any occasion. The wonderful ladies who own CM recommended some luxurious pajamas, cute T-shirts and beautiful vases for those flowers in your favorite mom’s garden. But we fell in love with  Checkered Moon’s top-selling frangance: Dead Sexy. As owner Sharon Crow said, “Champaign moms like to smell special and sexy too!”

Dead Sexy No. 06 Parfum by Tokyo Milk, $29

Art Mart, Lincoln Square Village, Urbana

Art MartArt Mart is the destination of choice if you have a foodie mom or want to pick up some delicious Ruben’s chocolates. There’s truly something for everyone — they also have some fantastic organic seed kits, beautiful handbags and lovely frames. I have a weakness for tote bags, and absolutely went head over heels for this sweet version by tag. This could take your favorite mom everywhere this summer from the pool to the Market at the Square to girl’s night out.

Tag tote bag, $26

Jane Addams Book Shop, 208 North Neil Street, Champaign

Jane Addams Book ShopWe love this locally owned, independent bookstore because it lets us get lost in other worlds for as long as we have time. And no matter what your mom loves, you can find something about it here. They also have a great selection of cards, and we were particularly fond of the journals and address books which allow your favorite mom to clear her mind and jot down her thoughts.

Journals & Address Books – from $12 – $18

Spa Envy, 2219 S. Neil St., Champaign

pedis

No mom I know would refuse a little pampering. Spa gift certificates are always popular, and what better place to send her to than the all-new location of one of Champaign-Urbana’s favorite salons. Spa Envy will debut in its new home at the Shoppes of Knollwood this week. Even on a budget of $50 or less, one could afford a standard pedicure ($40), spa manicure ($22), pure focus facial ($45) or a makeup application ($45). For a nice touch, arrange childcare too, if necessary.

We’d love your Mother’s Day gift-giving tips. Start off the discussion in the comments below.

Wow, nice ideas here. And will someone please buy me those shoes, even though I’m not a mom?
