Your kids might have fun this weekend with inflatable games offered at a couple of free events.

It’s another April weekend in Chambana, and that means a whole lot of fun. FREE fun. Did I say free? Yes, I did. Like music? Like Illinois sports? Still celebrating Earth Day? There’s something for everyone. So I decided to do something a little different for this edition of Weekend Planner. Did I mention that everything is free? In this issue: get playing, get running, get reading, and get listening!

What: Get playing with inflatables!
Where to find them: There will be inflatables for kids this weekend at at least two free events – first, at the annual Orange and Blue Spring Football Game at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 24. The game starts at 1 p.m; inflatable games, located on the field level at the south end of Memorial Stadium, will be available from for all youth in attendance from noon to 3 p.m. The second event is the Evening at Savoy/Summer Kickoff Event at the Savoy Recreation Center from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 25. (Admission is free to that event, but it isn’t clear if the inflatables are).

What: Get reading!
Where: There’s rain in the forecast, so indoor entertainment might be the order of the day. Saturday features several free storytimes – including an Earth Day-themed crafts, songs and storytime at the Urbana Free Library at 11 a.m. (for children 3 and up); and stories and crafts at chambanamoms.com partner Cakes on Walnut at 3 p.m. (all ages).

What: Get listening!
Where: Free music? Yes! Head over on Saturday morning to the Champaign Public Library for its finale to its annual BabyFest week for a concert by David Howie,  as he shares songs from the library’s very own Baby Boogie CD at 10:30 a.m.; all ages. Or, head over to the Kids@Krannert event at the Krannert Art Museum in Urbana for an arts feast from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday morning.

What: Get active!
Where: Take the kids running on Saturday morning — for free — in the 1.5K Youth Unity Run sponsored by the YWCA of the University of Illinois at Urbana’s Meadowbrook Park. Parents can run or walk with their children, or put kids in a stroller. Afterward there will be refreshments. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. Will be a good tune-up for next week’s Busey Illinois Youth Run (part of the Illinois Marathon).
