This jumperoo has been sitting in my family room for months. Time to sell! (Photo by Laura Weisskopf Bleill)

You see this jumperoo? I have seen it every day for months. It is my visual reminder that I need to get my act in gear and get my stuff ready to consign at One Week Boutique, the mega-consignment sale that will hold its spring event April 9-12 in Champaign.
I have been shopping at One Week Boutique since it held the sale at the Champaign County Fairgrounds, but it was only during the most recent event that I consigned for the first time. Amazingly enough, I spent almost as much as I made back. Now that my baby is now a toddler — and as Amy would say, my womb is closed for business — I have a lot of stuff to get rid of.
So as I try to get myself motivated for the challenge, I will try to do the same for you.
Here are some tips for consignors:
- Go into every room and closet one by one and gather items that your kids have outgrown, but that still look like they are in great shape. Be sure to go through the garage, attic, backyard… anywhere you have clothes, toys or baby equipment stored.
- Don’t forget those maternity clothes!!
- Once you’ve gathered all the items, work on cleaning them up a bit. HINT: Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are wonderful for sprucing up toys and baby equipment. You can use baby wipes, too.
- When looking at clothing, make sure it’s clean around the neck for baby clothing (spit up stains can be hard to see). If things are wrinkled either quickly iron them or buy the spray bottle of wrinkle release. This will make your items sell quickly.
- Make sure to include batteries; shoppers will want to know items work.
- Price competitively. You want your stuff to sell; rule of thumb is one-third the purchase price for items in excellent condition.
