What are you doing this weekend? What aren’t you doing this weekend? Well, as tempting as it sounds to sit on the couch and watch the college basketball conference tournament games (OK maybe that’s just me), there is so much awaiting outside your door. In this edition: Centennial basketball; Naturally Illinois Expo; Illinois Football Family Fun Fest;  and the Goat Baby Shower.

What: Class 3A Sectional Championship Game: Centennial vs. Springfield Southeast
When: Friday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Centennial High School, Champaign
How much: $5 – doors open for ticket sales at 6:15
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go:
It’s never too late to jump on the Chargers bandwagon and show some community spirit. High school tournament basketball is intense.

What: 2010 INRS Naturally Illinois Expo
When: Saturday, March 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Natural Resources Building, 607-615 East Peabody Drive, Champaign
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go:
Everyone knows about the Engineering Open House, a fantastic event that also continues on Saturday. The Naturally Illinois Expo has “50 exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities of interest to students of all levels” regarding water, energy, ecosystem, mineral resource, natural hazard, climate, cultural resource, and technology issues.

What: Illinois Football Family Fun Fest
When: Saturday, March 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Irwin Indoor Practice Facility and Memorial Stadium Great West Hall
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go:
Basketball season isn’t over yet, but this will whet your appetite for fall. Fans will have the opportunity to meet, get autographs and take pictures with the Illini football team. Get your kicks and try a field goal, or run an obstacle course and timed 40-yard dashes. The Great West Hall will have inflatable games as well as a station to try on an Illinois uniform. Be sure to follow the parking and registration info.

What: Goat Baby Shower
When: Sunday, March 14, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Prairie Fruits Farm, Urbana
How much: Free
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Your kids will get a kick out of all the newborn goat kids. Get a taste of the yummy Prairie Fruits Farm cheese – some of our nation’s best.

    I think the Prairie Fruits Farm event is Sunday, the 14th, according to the News-Gazette.

  3. My son is playing in the Pep Band (Sousaphone) for Centennial tonight and is also participating in the 30 Hour Famine. I am helping with the famine.
