We travel a lot by car. I have a serious plane phobia and hello! We have two kids. Four plane tickets are not easy on a girl’s budget.
Just this past Christmas, we drove almost 2,000 miles. And that, my friends, is a lot of Barbie movies. I can admit it, I employ the built-in DVD-player generously when we drive back East. While it keeps the kids quiet, it can drive a mom and dad nearly insane.
Kids love movies. Moms and dads like quiet. What’s a family to do? Problem, meet solution: Kids Gear Wireless Car Headphones.
These babies are just the right size for any kid ages 2 and up (or if you’re like me and gave birth to a giant, you can use them earlier). They have comfort padding for small heads, volume contols on the ear-cup, and automatic power-off for when the wee ones finally fall asleep.
The headphones can be used with any DVD system installed in: Ford, GM, Cadillac, Audi, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Dodge, Toyota, Lincoln, Acura, Volkswagen, Chevrolet, Land Rover, Lexus, Mitsubishi, Volvo … and Honda, the Official Mini-Van of chambanamoms.com.
The good people at Kidz Gear were kind enough to send us a set of these puppies just for you, along with a wireless transmitter that allows them to be used with any audio or video system that has an audio/video device outlet. The regular retail value of these headphones is $34.99.
Want a pair? You have until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 to leave a comment and tell us your tips for road trips with the kids. We’ll choose a winner at random. We’re giving away a second pair at the chamabanamoms and Cakes on Walnut Mom’s Night Out!
Now tell us, how do you survive those long road trips?

Lots and lots of snacks!
Bring lots of different movies and books!
Snacks, movies, sing-a-long music, small white board for hangman and tic-tac-toe.
Snacks, lots of movies, books, and games, stop when you need to and wear comfortable clothes.
Lots of snacks, and books. A good imagination is always great with the older kids….playing games like 20 questions, or I spy.
We do lots of books on tape in the van. They can color or draw while it is playing in the background. Also when we are going on a long trip I get little goodies for them and wrap them up. Then I give them a new “present” every hour or so. They think it is much more fun because it is wrapped!
Snacks. And yoga clothes for mom so I can climb to the back of the mini-van to break up fighting, retrieve snacks off of floor to reclycle when we run out of snack, and when I try to convince the baby that mommy is really holding him and he is not strapped into his car-seat not being held by mommy. Oh, and the car-top carrier, where we put all our stuff. And the bike rack, and the huge stroller, and the baby gear…
We have magnadoodles that never leave the car- these are great. Also all the familiar car games- “My grandmother went to Europe…” and guessing how many miles to the next scenic something or other(rest area, McDonald’s, lake, etc) and I Spy and math problems and counting cows….
Oh- and Dramamine to combat the ills that often come with too much attention to the magnadoodles….
Snacks, Drinks and Comfy Clothes for everyone (including the adults)…
Lots of movies and snacks for the car. Music comes in handy to dance to also.
Movies(thus the need for headphones), night protection diapers
, food, drink and great company!
We just got a DVD player, but whenever possible, we fly. Southwest is cheap enough for us to make it back to Cleveland to see family regularly.
I bring lots of books, and small cars/airplanes/trains.
I spy….singing along loudly to kid and adult cds and letting my son bring his guitar along so he can pretend to sing along. Lots and lots of books and a couple new movies if it is a long trip. Breaking it up (leaving really early in the a.m. or driving for a while after bedtime) so they can sleep part of the time always works great too, no matter how old they are
Cool post, I prefer wireless headphones myself.
