Yours Mine & Ours kids’ consignment shop may have closed its doors earlier this month, but there are still plenty of options when it comes time to clear out the closets.

Consignment and re-sale shops abound here in Chambana, including one of the best-kept secrets in town: Bella Bambini. The Champaign children’s boutique located at 2213 S. Neil St. is taking kids clothes from size 0 months on up to size 10, along with shoes, accessories and maternity clothes for their “Clean Out Your Closet” Sale. But hurry! The last day to bring in your gently used items is Friday, Jan. 22.

If you can’t make it to Bella Bambini before the sale ends, here are our suggestions for other local consignment and resale shops for kids and women:

  • Village WardrobeVillage Wardrobe takes gently used, brand name children’s clothing size newborn to size 14 and maternity clothing.  Call ahead to see what season they are currently taking.  They also take toys in good condition, children’s educational books, some children’s furniture and accessories.  Village Wardrobe also lets consigners check their accounts online and offers online shopping. How much more convenient can you get? Wait — they even have a drop-and-run so you don’t have to wait for your stuff be sorted. Bonus! Village Wardrobe has two locations: 8 Main Street in Homer and their brand-new store in Monticello.
  • All Things Kids All Things Kids takes kids’ clothing for all seasons all year long. They will also accept maternity clothing, and toys, baby quipment, furniture, DVDs, VHS tapes in cases and feeding items. All Things Kids is located at 606 Staley Road, Champaign.
  • Frogs & FairiesFrogs & Fairies is a resale shop, meaning that they will make you an offer on your used children’s clothing and pay you up front. The store itself looks like upscale retail and is organized by size and gender. Those looking to sell their items should bring in “fashionable” kids’ and maternity clothing (here’s a specific list of brands it will accept) for all seasons. Frogs & Fairies is located at 2860 S. Philo Road.
  • One Week Boutique — OWB isn’t a bricks-and-mortar store, but a twice-a-year consignment extravaganza. It is a great resource to buy clothes — everything from maternity up to size 14 for kids. Toys, baby equipment, videos and books are also for sale. Consigners and volunteers get access to OWB’s pre-sale, which guarantees the best selection. It’s not only a great place to buy and sell, but also to meet other area moms. Look for OWB’s spring sale dates and location to be announced in the weeks ahead.

Buying and selling used kids clothing just makes sense: they grow so fast, it saves (and sometimes even makes) money and it’s green living. Do you consign? Why or why not?

I’ve been to all three of the resale places you mentioned and I love them all for different reasons! Village Wardrobe is not one that you think of right away, but that’s great! You may just find something really wonderful there, like me – I found a GORGEOUS bridesmaid dress for my daughter there for only $25! I can only imagine it originally cost about $100! All Things Kids has such a HUGE inventory and you can find just about anything! Frogs and Fairies is my newest favorite though. I know I can find something really nice when I go there because they only take the BEST stuff. Their inventory isn’t huge and so I don’t get lost in all the stuff, but rather see the beautiful stuff that they do have. So, it all depends on what I’m looking for or what kind of shopping experience I want, but you guys are right, we do have a lot of great choices here in C-U!

    Hey!
Thanks for letting people know of the GREAT resale shopping that is in the Champaign area! When we opened our store almost 2 years ago, Yours Mine & Ours was the ONLY consignment store to shop!
The more clean, organized, and upscale consignment stores that open – the more people become aware of this great shopping opportunity. You don’t have to shop the mall to find a beautiful Gymboree outfit fit for a king or queen, and just think of all the money you will save!

I sell my daughters clothes at resale shops, then I wait for my account to build!! When we need to buy clothes, I go to the resale shop and I then have money waiting for me at the store to buy them. I have been able to buy an entire season of clothes with the money I have had in my account.

Another shop in the area is Strickly Kids Resale Shop in Gibson City 217-784-4218. You must call to make an appointment to drop off clothes.
