Please help us help Haiti. (Photo by Beatriz_Mojica on flickr)

After yesterday’s post regarding sending monetary donations to help the people of Haiti, I felt a bit empty. I knew I wanted to send a donation, but wasn’t sure how much or where. The texting campaigns (text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a $10 donation to the Red Cross relief efforts) have been wonderful; there are plenty of excellent organizations who are reputable and efficient. But what was enough? It all seemed — well — so solitary.
This morning, I found my answer. I realized that we should make this should be a community effort. We want to show the world that Chambana cares. So for every comment we receive on this post, Amy and I will donate $1 apiece to Haiti earthquake relief efforts (up to $100). If you are interesting in matching the gift (at whatever increment you choose), please let us know so we can include your name on this post. We will be sending the money to the Red Cross of Central Illinois.
Bella Bambini, Tracey Fairchild, Amy Armstrong and Karen Hatch have joined our challenge. So that means each comment is worth $6! Thank you!
Simply tell us in what ways you have given, or plan to give to those in Haiti.

I know that during Hurricane Katrina relief Wal-Mart would have trucks outside of their stores so that donated goods could be immediately loaded onto them. I wish that they would do something like for Haiti, as the country is so close to our borders. It doesn’t seem like it be out of line to be able to send them necessary supplies, as well as money.
What a great idea, guys!
I’ll be donating through American Jewish World Service.
I think this is a great idea! If we all help our a little we can really accomplish alot.
We are donating through Samaritan’s purse already but thanks for motivating our community to help others.
I’m collecting supplies for moms and babies to be sent down there: receiving blankets, onesies, etc. Even before the earthquake, many new moms in Haiti didn’t have these simple supplies, but now even more will be in need.
Yay! Great way to help out. We donated today through the American Red Cross. http://american.redcross.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ntld_main&s_subsrc=RCO_ResponseStateSection
I will match your donation. You ladies rock and what a great way to raise awareness!
Bella Bambini will match the donation as well!
Thank you for doing this.
Great idea, ladies!
I’ll match $1 a piece, up to $100.
That’s my little sister, peeps. She’s the best.
Your generosity will certainly help those in need. Cheers!
This Rocks!!!
This is great; thanks for doing it. Read an informative article on safe and efficient ways to donate, by the way: http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/15/tips-for-safe-and-efficient-giving-to-help-haiti/.
Keep up the good work!
A big thanks to all of you for doing this!
Thanks Laura, Amy, and Karen, too!
Thank you for doing this!! My book club read Mountains beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, A Man Who Would Cure the World by Tracy Kidder last year; Paul Farmer’s story moved us all. We’re sending a donation to Partners in Health.
Susan, I loved that book. Tracy Kidder is now an advocate for Haiti. Did you see his op-ed piece in the Times? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/14/opinion/14kidder.html
What a great way to offer collective support! Thanks ladies for doing this. I am donating to Yele Haiti (http://www.yele.org/about-us/), a grassroots organization founded by musician and Haiti native, Wyclef Jean, before the earthquake hit. I am also donating through the alumni chapter of my sorority, which has a partnership with CARE (http://www.care.org/). The chapter will also be collecting items from chapter members to send to Haiti. We have a couple of members who are Haitian and have family in Haiti, so we continue to pray for their loved ones and offer support.
I donated to Partners in Health also.
Thanks, chambanamoms! I’ve donated through UNICEF.
What an amazing idea! I donated to Doctors Without Borders (https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/).
Great job, Chambanamoms!
Great!
You ladies are awesome!
Count me in!
Thanks so much for reminding us of our responsibility to each other. My husband and I have donated to the Red Cross’s International Disaster Response team.
Great idea. I hope this effort far exceeds your expectations.
I’m taking advantage of Yahoo’s link to American Red Cross (they have other organizations listed as well) so I can donate. Great idea, Laura and Amy!! Keep up the great work! : )
We’re donating to the American Red Cross. Thanks for your generosity and for starting this conversation.
Not only have I donated, I am holding my two girls a little closer this week. Kudos to you for taking action!
Awesome idea. Thanks Chambanamoms!
Thanks to you guys for your efforts…
Will also match $1, up to $100. Watched CNN late into the night last night with a breaking heart. Garbage trucks full of bodies being dumped into a dump, no grave, no marker. Mothers, fathers, children, and siblings. Incredibly tragic.
Lindsay, thank you so much!
This is so inspiring. Thank you for your efforts.
Wonderful idea, Laura and Amy. And thanks to all those who are also matching their gift.
P.S. My husband’s work is matching our gift to Partners in Health.
Thanks for doing this. We donated to the Red Cross.
Love this idea. Kudos to all who are giving financially. I’m also PRAYING for the Haitian people affected and those who are physically there (or will go) to help those in need. God is a God of restoration!
I’ve donated to the Red Cross. Thanks, Laura and Amy, and everyone else who is matching!
Thank you for this . . . everyone!
