Hair-and-make-up parties for little girls aren’t generally my cup of tea, but my daughter was recently invited to one at The Pink Poodle in St. Joseph.
Color me skeptical, but I worried that she would come home looking like a leading character on TLC’s “Toddlers & Tiaras.” She, on the other hand, was so excited that she could barely sleep the night before the party.
Fast-forward to Saturday afternoon: I picked her up from the Pink Poodle and she sported one fancy hair-do and some lip gloss. She also got her nails painted, choosing red for one hand and silver for the other. That pleased her dad to no end, considering that The Ohio State University had just beaten evil Michigan on the football field earlier that afternoon.
The Pink Poodle is a sweet venue, with pastel-colored walls and a garden-party atmosphere. Tables are set up in the back room, and there is a special area where the girls get beautified.
The party packages are extremely reasonable for what you get, and start at $95 for six guests. That fee includes an up-do, light make-up, a manicure, a piece of jewelry and a pick-a-poodle party pack, which is three prizes from an array of girlie goodies, which means that you don’t have to worry about the dreaded treat bag.
The venue does not offer food and drink, so be prepared to bring your own snacks, cake and beverages. You can also bring in your own decorations.
And don’t worry, you won’t come home with a little girl who looks more like a lady of the evening than a preschooler.
