TGIF. And you’re thinking, now what? You’ve come to the right place. In this weekly feature, we’ll give you ideas for fun weekend activities for your family. In this issue: My Little Pony movie; professional tennis in C-U; Festival of Trees; and a yodeling cowboy at Champaign Public Library.
What: My Little Pony: Twinkle Wish Adventure (NR)
Where: The Carmike Beverly Cinemas
When: 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday
How Much: $5 per person, all ages
Appropriate for: Ages 2-6
Why you should go: Because your daughter will think you’re a hero. If you’ve never taken your little one to a movie before, this would be a good introduction to that experience. This movie will also be shown on Nov. 28 and 29 (and it’s also available on DVD).
What: Festival of Trees 2009
Where: iHotel, Champaign
When: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
How much: $5 adults; $3 children 4-12 and seniors; Children 3 and under free
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why you should go: Take a picture with Santa; view exquisitely decorated trees; enter raffles for beautiful trees and gift packages. Choruses and bands performing at times. This annual fundraiser benefits charitable programs in our community that center around children.
What: JSM Challenger
Where: Atkins Tennis Center, Urbana
When: Saturday, times TBA
How much: $7 per person; discounts for UI students
Why: A rare opportunity to show your kids tennis at a very high level.
What: Singing, Yodelin’ & Trick Ropin’
Where: Champaign Public Library
When: Saturday, 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
How much? FREE
Appropriate for: All Ages
Why you should go: Ropin‘ Randy Erwin, who was featured in the animated Disney film “Home on the Range,” will entertain kids of all ages with cowboy music, yodeling and rope tricks.
